Shihan Henry McCoy started his training in 1979 in Kindai Ryu Jiu-jitsu under Shihan Neal. In December 1984 he started training in Mugai-Ryu Iaido under Kyoshi Fredrick Thomason of Silver Dragon Karate. On September 10, 1985 he received his first degree black belt in Kindai-Ryu Jiu-jitsu. He continued to study under Shihan Neal until his untimely death in 1987. In 1987 he began his training in Shito-Ryu Karate-Do, Goshin-Do, and Mugai-Ryu Iaido under Soke Kuniba. On February 29, 1988 he received his second degree black belt in Jui-Jitsu. On June 25, 1989 he received Sandan in Kindai (Gokko) Ryu Jiu-Jitsu from Master Ronald Duncan of the Way of the Winds Martial System. On December 14, 1989 he received his third degree black belt in Kindai-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu and Kuniba Ryu Goshin-Do. On June 1, 1990, Shihan McCoy received his first-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu Karate Do under Soke Kuniba. He remained a student of Soke Kuniba until Soke Kuniba's sudden death in 1992. On September 10, 1995 he received his second degree black belt in Shito-Ryo Karate-Do. In January 1996 he became and still is a member of Chikubu Kai Karate Do. On November 1, 1998 he received his fourth degree black belt in Kuniba Ha Shito-Ryu Karate Do and Kuniba Ha Goshin-Do under the direction of Soke William H. Price. On October 4, 2002, Shihan McCoy was promoted to fifth (5th) degree black belt by Soke Price. On October 9, 2004, Shihan McCoy was awarded the title of Shihan (Master Teacher) by Soke Price. Shihan McCoy is also a defensive tactics instructor for the State of Virginia. When he's not in the Dojo, Shihan works as a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Newport News, VA. Shihan McCoy was called "Hissatsu No Ken" by Shihan Kobayashi, which is also the name for his Dojo. |
